Today we get to give you an exclusive chat with one of our very own Music Elk artists: Axollo!
Who are you and what’s your background?
Hey! I’m Tijn a.k.a Axollo and I live in The Netherlands, in Zoetermeer. I make mostly House/Future Funk music and I have a secret obsession with Bass House!
What made you initially want to get into the music industry? Where did it all start?
I remember listening to Levels by Avicii one day and thinking: “How does one make these dance tracks?”. After doing some research I found out about FL Studio, and after playing around with it I immediately fell in love with producing and I’m still way too addicted to making music!
What is your day to day schedule like, and what do you get up to?
I wake up, eat breakfast, play a game or something and then I start producing music. Then I take small breaks or I go chill out with friends and when I get back home I produce again!
What do you enjoy most about it making music?
Connecting with new people, travelling and getting sick new ideas for new tracks!
What do you do when you’re not working (for downtime?)
I mostly play video games or go out and hang with my friends!
What’s your biggest achievement to date?
Probably releasing my remix for Alan Walker, and chilling out with him and Alex Skrindo, Dzeko, Carta and many more producers at ADE. That night was unforgettable.
Are there any tips or tricks that you wish you had known when you started?
“If it sounds good, it’s good”. I’ve always had trouble thinking outside of the box in general, but one day I distorted the sh*t out of a bass synth, I was like: “Heck yeah let’s do this”, and the end result sounded insane. I haven’t found the track ever since but but my newest productions are way better anyways!
What advice would you have for the readers looking to pursue a career in your field?
Don’t ever give up. I see a lot of people posting on Facebook like “Oh I’m not gonna make it and I think I might quit”… Did you really think there weren’t going to be any setbacks? I don’t think so. The industry can be rough in the end, it’s all worth it and it’s all about making music, connecting and being happy. Even if you ever stumble upon negative stuff, please just never give up. Everyone gets opportunities at some point.
What do you do on the days where you have no motivation and how do you overcome that problem?
I take a good break. I don’t produce and I do other stuff. You will get inspiration somehow, even if it takes a long time.
Do you have any personal tips or actionable advice for success (either in music or life in general)?
Sometimes you just have to do something you don’t feel like doing, that has been a big part of growing up for me but I feel so good after doing jobs that reward me in the end!
Who are your favourite artists at the moment?
Kage, definitely Kage. He’s been killing the Bass House game lately, and his new track with Snavs is insane. I’m also a huge fan of a lot of CONFESSION artists like Loge21, Matroda, GODAMN, Bellecour etc.
Are there any announcements for recent and/or upcoming things you would like to announce?
I’ve got an insane original waiting for vocals, and some remixes as well – I can’t wait for them to be released!
